Quilt Preparation

Quilt Top

Please clip stray threads or raveling fabrics as best you can. You might not be able to get them all, but it prevents dark threads from showing though your quilt top. Then press your seams either open or to the side.

Use a safety pin to indicate the top of your quilt. That way your pieced top and the backing will align the way you hope they will!

Quilt Backing

To get the best results, make sure your backing fabric is 8 inches wider and longer than your quilt top. This will provide a 4-inch margin on all sides to secure the quilt back to the frame properly. If you have a pieced backing with a seam, use a 1/2-inch seam allowance and backstitch at the ends to secure it. Press the seam open to reduce bulk.
Just like with the top, if your backing has a specific direction, mark the top with a safety pin.

Shipping

Protect your quilt by placing the top and backing in a plastic bag to prevent water damage during shipping. Fold or roll your project into a small shape to reduce shipping costs. Don't waste money on shipping empty space! Consider getting insurance to cover the cost of replacing all the fabric you bought for the quilt, just in case something goes wrong.
